We're taking a trip to DC in December, and I'm looking forward to that.
My father needs to go into an independent living facility. We have him on
a
waiting list for a fantastic one in Gainesville (where he lives) called
The
Village (they never heard of The Prisoner, but I still joke about sending
my Dad to The Village). It'll be at least another six to eight months
before he'll likely get an apartment there. So we're trying to find some
sort of place for him to go visit for a month or maybe two, to give my
brother some respite so he can get his son under better control (he's
fifteen, and starting to be a pain in the butt).
Finding a place for Dad to visit for a month or so is proving challenging.
After more than three years of being completely in control of our diabetes
(our A1Cs were *always* 5.9 or lower, every three months we got tested) we
fell off the wagon and now we have to get back on. We've restarted our
"get
back in control" regime and it's a little hard, getting used to walking
all
the time again, but the payoff is immediate in our numbers, and that's
good.
We've built our dream house:

We moved in November 2004, and we love it.
We bought a Prius this January and we're getting 50 mpg as of two days
ago,
though it's always been over 42 mpg even in the winter. It fits us WAY
better than I expected it to. My husband is around 475, and I'm 320 lbs,
so
we're real big folks and no problem with it. I have never loved a car
this
much. It's FANTASTIC. So don't let the size put you off buying one.
Ours
was only $25,500, compared to the $20,000 we'd spent on our minivan in
2002
(of COURSE we got a car loan, but the payments are around the same as for
the minivan, only $30 more a month). Ask me about my Prius, I'm happy to
rave about it. :)

Our kitty, Brynna, is getting subcu fluids once a week because we're
sup****ting her slowly failing kidneys. She'll be sixteen in November, and
really she's just fine otherwise. You'd never know she was so old or
getting ill. I expect when she finally does go, she'll fail rapidly.
We're holding off on getting any other pets because she's really enjoying
being the only kitty for a while.
There's so many other things, but I'll bring this to a close now. Great to
hear from folks!
