Our TiVo recorded as a suggestion a movie done by the ABC Family channel.
It was called Beautiful Girl. Usually I check out the suggested movies
TiVo
gets for me out of curiosity, so I started this one, not expecting it to
be
any good at all.
Ok, well, it wasn't what I'd call good, but I still watched it all. It was
about a recently fat woman who is a successful elementary school music
teacher, and who enters a beauty pageant in order to win an all expense
paid vacation to Hawaii for her honeymoon.
She has this great positive image about herself, and encourages her
students to be themselves, not try and imitate Britney Spears. The
experience in the beauty pageant changes her, and she starts caring about
conventional beauty for the first time... but in the end she realizes
that's not her (she looked for all the world like a drag queen when they
finished with her makeover bleah). She didn't win in the end (but got
first
runner up, and got her trip to Hawaii), and learned a valuable lesson
about
being herself, loving herself, and being a good example for others.
It was a nicely refre****ng message for a family channel to put out there.
She was totally adorable, too. I love long curly hair. :)
Anyway, they might show it again sometime. :)
