There have been several studies to show that dieting BEFORE pregnancy and
dieting WHILE pregnant are both very dangerous for the baby. Your
nutritional needs must be completely met while you're trying to conceive.
I can't find the exact study that I read about how dieting while
pregnant can actually make your baby have a tendancy to be fatter, but
here's what I found during a google search:

Your doctor is full of crap. MD does not stand for Medical Diety. He's
just
trying to medically blackmail you into a diet. My mother got pregnant
over 300 lbs, easily. Many MANY women have managed to get pregnant while
over 300 lbs. On another list I'm on, one of our friends got pregnant
while she was Fat, Over 40, AND Diabetic, and managed to have a perfectly
healthy baby boy.
Eat healthy, exercise, and forget the starvation routine. And find another
doctor, for cryin' out loud. Someone who actually USES his brain, not just
sits on it.
