A fertility specialist who weighed nearly 400 pounds himself has
persuaded me that the reason why I have not gotten pregnant is, at
least in part, that I weigh too much. He said something like "I have
been doing this for 30 years and women over 300 pounds never get
pregnant. The ones that lose weight and get under 300 often do, and
often without my further help."
We are also ruling out other causes in parallel.
This doctor has also persuaded me that Atkins is the best way he knows
for me to get from super sized down to plus sized, so I intend to
try it. (I am doing exercise as well.)
I am not saying whether this doctor is correct. Time will tell, at
least in my case. He impressed me as someone who seemed to know his
stuff. I am not saying that anyone else should try the same as me, or
not. I will seek further advice once I get pregnant as to how to
modify what I eat, but I imagine what I eat while pregnant will
differ from before.
My reason for posting here:
Some people havbe advised me that it is a bad idea to try
Atkins for more than 6 months, but they are vague as to why.
I figure this newsgroup has many people who know the dangers of
various weight loss diets. Does anyone know whether the concerns
about Atkins are justified, and what the problems are?
By the way, I did get the proper diabetes test, per some advice I got
here, and the conclusion was: my blood sugar stays a little high, but
when I fast and then drink glucose, my body can bring it back down to
the former level, no problem.
Thanks,
Mary-Anne
