"LOS ANGELES - Kirstie Alley will take on tabloids, Hollywood and
herself in Showtime's "Fat Actress," a reality-comedy series about the
life of an overweight celebrity.
"Alley proposed the series to the cable channel as a "send-up of her own
image as well as Hollywood's obsession with weight and beauty," said
Robert Greenblatt, entertainment president for Showtime Networks Inc.
"The actress, heavier than when she starred in "Cheers" and "Veronica's
Closet" and films including "Look Who's Talking," has been the subject
of unflattering photos in supermarket tabloids..."
I'm cheered by this. In 1996 there was a movie filmed in the town I live
in. Two of the stars in it were Tim Allen and Kristie Alley.
Everyone was excited about Tim Allen coming to town but he spent most of
the time while shooting in his trailer, and went home to Michigan on
weekends (and was arrested for drunk driving one of those weekends, so
maybe he was having problems at the time--he still shouldn't have been
driving drunk!).
Kristie Alley went out during her stints, signed autographs, did
shopping at the nearby stores. (Our downtown area was artfully done to
look like Intercourse, Pa. The lawyer's office next to the library was
made up to look like a real estate office. They required some creative
shooting to avoid an unrehabbed "Little Vinnie's Tattoos," which did not
consent to being done up as an Amish store.) To this day, there are
little shrines to Kristie Alley all over my town.
Maybe I'll set one up here. Right next to my ****ne for Linda Ronstadt,
speaking of another fat girl in the US news....
