Well, I am not sure how much publicity this has gotten other than
locally, but Park Avenue and it's various incarnations all the way
south to the Brooklyn Bridge has been turned into a pedestrian way the
past three Saturday mornings until 1PM. I was out today on the part
near my flat and really enjoyed being able to go to the grocery and
not having to deal at all with cars. The street was full of joggers,
cyclists and dogwalkers in my part of town but I expect down by Union
Square they are dancing in the street.
What a wonderful way to spend a Summer Saturday morning in town. I
hope that the city continues it in the future. The air was definitely
cleaner and the quiet was awesome!
