One last Birthday Party

by Sir Jerry of Florida <jerryfr40@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Jul 21, 2008 at 04:35 AM

I must warn you up front that this is not going to be a happy post. I
am upset, I am confused, I am depressed and I am FLAT ****ING PISSED
OFF! I have 3 gentlemen that I refer to as my "Best Friends". All 3
are older than me. 2 have retired and the last is about to. All 3 are
in their early 60s. All 3 have wives, children and grandchildren. All
4 of us were born in the first 10 days of July. I am 49 with a wife
and no children. All 3 love life and everything it has to offer them.
They fight for every single additional day they can get hold of. I am
not suicidal but I was perfectly happy to "check out of this hotel" a
long time ago.

Here's the first question:

1.) Why does God choose to bring home only those people who are not
finished living yet?

One of my "Best Friends", whom I quit smoking with on numerous
occasions, was hospitalized about 3 weeks ago for pneumonia. They
removed 3 liters of fluid from his lungs. He had retired about 4 years
earlier from the company we all worked for (125 years between us 4)
and had never quit smoking again since leaving. I did not spend
anywhere near the time I should have with him since he left, partially
due to the smoking and mainly because I knew I would have time later
on.

WRONG!!! Of course, you knew where this is going. 2 weeks ago my
friend was informed that he has terminal lung cancer and will die in
less than 6 months. He looks as good as he did the day he retired,
except that his clock is ticking down now.

Question Two:

2.) What would be the first thing you would do in this case, as him,
upon walking out of that hospital?

GIVE ME A ****ING CIGARETTE! Who in their right mind would tell him
NO? Are they going to kill him? How could you say no to that request?
You couldn't of course. Let him smoke, it's too late for him to quit
now.

Fast forward 2 weeks, to July 5, 2008. His 65th birthday Party, at his
home. The last ****ing birthday that my best friend will ever see. The
last birthday that his 4 children will celebrate with their father.
The last birthday that his wife will spend with him. The last birthday
that his best friends will ever spend with him. The last birthday that
his Grand Child will ever spend with her Grandpa, by the time she is
in school she will probably not even remember him. The last birthday a
brother and a sister will ever spend with their other brother.

Question Three:

3.) What would you do while sitting around this table and the
"Birthday Boy" smoked?

Wife: Fire that bad boy up!
Eldest Son: Can I get a Light?
Youngest Son: Someone give me a smoke please
Daughter: Puff Puff
Brother: Smoke em if ya got em
Sister: cough, cough, drag, drag
Neighbor friends: You look great Norm...Hack Hack...how'd your Drs
appointment go today
Best Friends wife: smoking
Living best friend: no smoking, just chewing tobacco

WHAT THE **** IS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE?!?!?! DO THEY NOT UNDERSTAND
THAT THIS MAN, THAT WE ALL LOVE AND RESPECT, IS NOT GOING TO BE HERE
FOR CHRISTMAS AND THAT IT IS THESE MOTHER ****ING SICK-A-RETTES THAT
IS GOING TO PLANT HIM IN THE GROUND!?

Maybe they just can face losing him so they are going to try to join
him as fast as humanly ****ing possible?
IDIOTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love this man and I am terrified of facing his death. I would give
him both of my lungs if it would buy him one more day with his family.
It is not fair. He is not done yet. Who the **** is making these
decisions!

My legs kill me, my feet kill me, I have glaucoma, Bi-Polar disorder,
bad back, bad ears and I basically do not give a **** about living to
be 100. So THEY TAKE HIM!?!?? This is obviously a crap shoot. There is
no rhyme or reason; it is just a huge ****ing celestial crap shoot and
Norm Loses this time. Scrooge can't fix this. Tiny Tim will NOT be at
the ****ing table this year. He is going to die and there is not a God
damned thing that anyone can do about it.

Did I mention that this was not going to be a happy post? I am sorry.
I just cannot yell at any of them. They are coping the best they can
with the impending loss of a loved one. So far, he looks fine and that
makes it that much harder to accept.
