fear of flying

I attended a three-day course for fearful flyers. Yesterday we took a 
half-hour flight on a commercial airline.

In a way the whole flying problem reminded me of quitting smoking.

At first you think you could never quit (never fly).

Then you admit the possibility that you might just be able to quit (get
over 
your fear of flying).

Then you educate yourself about how to quit and why to quit (educate 
yourself about the security of flying, how to deal with your fears etc.)

Then you actually go through the difficult first weeks of not smoking (you

take yourself and your fear for an airplane ride or two or 12).

Eventually there comes a day when you look back astonished and say "I
really 
used to be a smoker?" (I really used to be a fearful flyer?)

I haven't gotten to that last stage as a flyer yet, but I have gotten
there 
as a smoker and it helps me to believe I just might make it as a flyer.!
