Keeping Focus

Wow....the post I just wrote and then deleted....lol.   Maybe one or 
two in here would have actually enjoyed it.

As I mentioned in a recent response to a post; I'm here to stay 
smober - not engage in left vrs right bull****.  While I tend to be 
strongly conservative (surprised?), I also have some liberal 
leanings at time.

When we get into areas of politics or religion, we get into areas 
that some of us hold dear to our hearts.  For me....I have a very 
difficult time ignoring those threads that have nothing to do with 
staying smober but everything to do with attacks on conservative 
values.  There was a time (I remember it...I swear I do) when the 
office of the President of the Unites States was actually respected.  
Maybe that all ended with Bill Clinton's blow jobs in the Oval 
Office and Richard Nixon's missing 18 minutes of recorded 
conversations.  Whatever.  We all have opinions about these and many 
other things.

What does any of this have to do with staying smober????  Does it 
help, hurt us, or have no impact in our efforts to stay smober?  For 
me...the mere posting of controversial material is not going to keep 
me from staying smoke-free...although it can and does make reading 
this group a bit less comfortable.

Now...here I sit...questioning my own motives for writing this and 
making this post.  I think its just to put it out there to perhaps 
suggest that we all be a little more sensitive to each other.  None 
of us have all the answers (if we did, we'd be rich and famous and 
not here).  Perhaps we could also back off a bit on the hurtful 
words and phrases....maybe even adapt the Rodney King philosophy of 
"Can't We All Get Along?"  History suggests that No...we can't all 
get along.  Sad.

Okay...before I work myself into a major depression here...gonna 
run.  Just putting this out for your consideration.  If you're going 
to throw stones at me...please throw them gently.  I thank you in 
advance.
