Summer reading recommendations
World War Z by Max Brooks
Even if you don't like zombie films, this is a very good read. This is
somewhat a sequel to his Zombie Survival Guide. The format of the book
follows the interviewer across the globe to get first hand witness
accounts as to what happened before, during and after the world wide
zombie outbreak and struggle for the human race. Brilliantly written,
quite realistic scenarios, as well as quite distinct and memorable
characters. Not for the squeamish, but if you've changed enough
diapers you will be fine with it.
Queen and Country by Greg Rucka
Head to your finer bookstore or comic book shop for these. Now
collected into trade paperback, reprints past editions and if you are
a fan of spy novels, you will love this series. The main character
Tara Chace makes James Bond look like a psychopathic thug. Not so much
on the gadgets and assasinations end of things, but as a person what
does she have to do to get the job done, and work through the problems
of ordinary everyday life. When was the last time that Bond was sent
in by M to go see a shrink about the people he's killed? Or (by volume
two) resist the temptations of cigarettes. Also has some tones of 24
in it, with the internal workings of the department and how the
various intelligence services work with each other. But this series
was done before the popular 24 tv series. If you like Prime Suspect,
you'll love this. And currently, I'm enjoying ...
Better than ***, Confessions of a political junkie by Hunter S.
Thompson
I don't know how long it's going to be before I finish this one, could
be the end of the week. I really do enjoy the writing of Thompson
though.
So other than that, I've got maybe 1 or 2 other books I've been
putting off... so other reading recommendations?
