First, be sure that you get blood chem tests done and are tested in
particular for vitamin B12 (which is absorbed by the ileum and thereby
your
levels may be low) and electrolytes--the colon absorbs them, and they may
too be low. An easy fix for now would be to be sure that you are drinking
at least 8 oz of an electrolyte replacement (such as Gatorade--although
the
sugar content is very high, so something called Emergen-C might do the
trick
better, if you can tolerate high levels of vitamin C, b/c it also contains
vitamins and minerals). Get blood chem tests done ASAP, and then replace
what you need to replace with more than is suggested--my own advice. For
more thorough advice, I'd suggest that you go to the United Ostomy
Associations of America site at www.uoaa.org and ask on the discussion
forum. (The easy answer is "iron," which may not be the best or only
answer
for our needs, and your body is still recuperating from the shock of the
operation, so please expect to see your energy levels fluctuate.)
