What vitamins or medications do I need without a terminal ileum &
colon?
About 3 months go, I checked into the emergency hospital with a small
bowel obstruction. Three days later, after a CAT-scan, an emergency
doctor operated on me and gave me an ileostomy. However, because of
a prior bowel bypass surgery at my terminal ileum, the ileostomy
results in me not having the use of my terminal ileum and colon.
Since I left the hospital, I have been very tired daily, although I
eat OK. When I went to see my family doctor to check me up last week,
he told me that I need iron pills.
Without my terminal ileum and my colon to absorb nutrients & vitamins,
because of the ileostomy, I am concerned that I may need periodic
medical injections or oral intake of vitamins. Therefore, I would
appreciate if you could let me know the possible medical tests that I
need, and the possible drugs or vitamins that I need. Thanks.
