I have a colostomy since 2002, and no dietary restrictions. I eat
spicy food at "real" Mexican restaurants, red meat, fish, shrimp.. all
manner of snacks.. etc. The ONLY thing that gives me trouble is not
drinking water in the summer when doing activity outside. Well, one
more thing.. if I eat lots of nuts, the output becomes very thick;
which in and of itself is no problem. It just makes emptying the pouch
a bit more difficult is all.
I would check back with another dietician. Granted, the diabetes is a
concern, but in and of itself, a normal colostomy shouldn't limit the
diet very much.
Oh, and I certainly drink more coffee than I should. 4 cups before
noon and 1 or two in the afternoon (6 oz cups).
