What sort of colostomy did she have? I had the lower third of my colon
removed and have no dietary restrictions related to it. I do have
dietary restrictions due to diabetes and kidney stones, but these are
unrelated.
I have to wonder about the restriction on red meat. Being diabetic my
diet includes more protein and vegetables and avoids simple
carbohydrates. Also, why coffee? Admittedly I don't drink as much as
I used to, but this is a personal choice, not a medical necessity.
It sounds like your mother fell into the hands of a traditional
dietitian who chants the "Meat Bad, Carbs Good, No Caffeine" mantra and
applies it to all with cookie-cutter evangelical zeal. It happens.
Try to find one who knows something about nutrition.
