I would not be surprised if that's how Paul Bernardo and
Tim Bundy justified their crimes.  "Clockwork Orange" the movie,
and the book, emphasize exactly that point.  As for "free will"--
I think that when it is used in such general and supernatural
contexts, it's a load of crap.  We have free will insofar as we
can exercise it, and just as we have free will to choose one
kind of action, so do we, have the power to choose another.
But there are limits of course-- torture for example puts
a great limit to your ability to act freely as does pain, and
physical restraints.
