Well, if life is fair, and this is what "fairness" is, wouldn't
that be a hell of a note.
What you /can/ do is accept that there are some things
are beyond your ability to control, and whatever the
reasons for his behavior or for yours, this is your life.
He may be an ass, but you've chosen to keep this ass
in your life, so I suggest that you'll be a heck of a lot
happier if, instread of trying so hard to figure the why's
amd wherefore's, you simply build your life around the
fact that you're married to an ass.
