too little, too late?

It's Christmas Eve...well, Christmas day now technically, and I find myself

musing about the state of my marriage.

I never bought into the words too little, too late.  I always figured that
if 
someone was going to make the effort, you ought to give them a chance. 
But now 
it seems like I'm living them.  There is no denying that after something
like 8 
years of coldness, indifference, and occasional cruelty, my husband has
turned a 
corner.  He's trying, he really is.

The criticisms have virtually stopped, the stomping and the muttering
curse 
words under his breath have been vastly reduced.  And I admit it, that
*he* is 
now the one reaching out to me.  He is the one who will call me in to
check out 
something on TV, who will suggest that our daughter can watch our son for
an 
hour or two while we go out, and who will come looking for me when he's
ready 
for bed.  I mentioned before that he suggested we go see a show I've been 
wanting to see for a long time, and he has  even taken a bit of interest
in my 
cl*****, and my career plans.

And yet, I find myself not caring.  Frankly, I'd rather be with my
friends, 
local or computer.  I don't get the warm fuzzies when I look at him, and
I'm 
just as happy when he sleeps elsewhere.  *** is another area where he is
making 
a huge effort, and it's having no effect on me at all.  Not that I don't
have it 
with him, I do, it's just that....well, the old gag of the guy going at it
and 
the woman doing her nails?  Not far off the mark.

This change of his is still relatively recent.  When it first started, I
didn't 
trust that it was real.  I thought my feelings were on hold because of
that. 
But it's been going on long enough now that I do trust it, and yet the
feelings 
still aren't there.

I didn't leave him when I had justification to, I'm certainly not going to
now. 
I just hope that as time goes on, the feelings do return.  What do you
think? 
Is it possible?
