Lyric Hearing Aid

by jaburky@[EMAIL PROTECTED] Oct 8, 2008 at 09:39 AM

Hello All,
I recently tried the Lyric hearing device in September, 2008. Since I
have dealt with a genetic-based hearing loss from the time I was in my
mid-thirties and now am sixty, I have used several in-the-ear devices
at a cost of thousands of dollars.
Once the Lyric was inserted, I was truly amazed at the level of
hearing I was experiencing for the first time in many years. This was
the most wonderful and truly exciting breakthrough! My son who is 38
has begun to show signs of the same genetic hearing loss. Music is a
major hobby of his so he was discouraged at the thought of losing the
ability to decipher intricate musical sounds, but now there is real
hope!

The current price for these devices is unfortunately quite high,
especially, as it appears that you may have to replace them within as
early as 45 days! Though Dane (per his blog) ran many tests including
swimming under water, my audiologist recommended NOT to swim
underwater with the devices. You may get longer wear with them if you
take steps to avoid too much moisture.

Unfortunately, at this juncture, my own experience was short-lived due
to an allergic reaction while sleeping - extreme itching and a flare-
up of eczema as a result. I had to have the devices removed.

Even though this experience was short-lived, it provided tremendous
hope for the ability to return to a "normal" mode of hearing someday.
I am hopeful that this technology will improve so that the devices may
either be removed and reinserted by the user, or that there is a
breakthrough in finding a material that will not cause an allergic
reaction by those who are sensitive.
Many thanks for the brilliant and dedicated scientists who are working
on this exciting technology.
