Who said the eye has to use light to see something?
Why not sound or radition or gamma rays?

Actually, if possible I will also modify the cortex of the mind and
create it so that it is able to process radition rays and gamma rays
and sound rays into a visual picture. The mind is an amazing
instrument and I think there are many things we have not touched on
and many things left that still need to be unlocked. Obviously that
would mean I need to modify the nerve cells too. It is a very
complicated operation but I know I can do it. Anything is possible if
you put your mind to it.
