Lawsuit Accuses Deputy Of False Imprisonment

OSKALOOSA, Iowa -- A lawsuit is accusing, Mahaska County, the Mahaska
County Deputy sheriff and his wife of false imprisonment, abuse of
power, violation of civil rights and harboring a runaway child.
A five-count lawsuit filed on Monday in Mahaska County makes the
allegations against Mahaska County Deputy Sheriff Richard Adams and
his wife, Melissa, as well as the county.
The plaintiffs in the lawsuit are Ashley Evans, 16, and her biological
father, Robin Evans.
According to the lawsuit, the Adams' petitioned on July 30, 2007, for
appointment of co-guardian****p of Ashley, which was granted in Nov.
2007.
The lawsuit alleges the Adams' obtained the co-guardian****p order
without notice to, and in violation of, the due process rights of
Robin Evans.
The lawsuit seeks damages, and the plaintiffs are requesting a jury
trial.
