Yes, that is a problem with such testing but it suggests the
possibility
of toxicity. Some people will consume Splenda on a regular basis over
their whole lifespan (from womb to the last meal prior to death)
so chronic toxicity may possible. Of course,
the challenge will be to measure it and that may not be readily
done even if the harm is real.
A year or two ago, I accidently consumed some Splenda and I noticed
what I thought to a taste of bleach on my breath. It seemed
quite real and yes you can claim this observation was "just
all in my head." Or perhaps my sense of taste and smell
is better than most.
