saw the neurologist

by "cms" <cms763@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Jun 3, 2008 at 06:44 PM

Hi everyone,

I saw my new neurologist today. She seems very nice.

She agrees that I am having partial seizures, and that I likely had one
grand mal in the past that I had thought might have been an ataxic (flop)
seizure, only I passed out and woke up feeling like I'd been in a paint
mixer that was hit by a train. She's getting my old records and scheduling
a
sleep-deprived EEG.

She's holding off on medication until she can get more information. I
think
she wants to see what my previous (good, retired) neuro had tried me on
for
migraine and see the test results before she tries anything. She might
also
want to look up the brain abnormality and see if anyone with it has been
successfully treated. She's also referring me to an epileptologist in the
hopes of getting the best treatment possible, since the epileptologist not

only has the sub-specialty, but also has been known to do a lot of studies

and research when it will benefit his patients. He may be able to devote a

lot of time to figuring this out, with the knowledge that he'll be able to

publish on it for the rest of his life.

In the meantime, I'm having an interesting time finding a second part-time

job. My current one is great but only gives me 14 hours a week, and the
grocery store is hiring night stock people and various daytime positions
but
I have a seizure nearly every time I'm in there even just for a few
minutes,
so I really don't want to try to work there. Most other jobs here seem to
require driving, working in extreme heat, staring at a computer screen,
etc.
.. . or working retail for a boss who might not understand if I were to
have
a seizure at work. Indeed, I've been told by someone at my school that
when
I graduate as a library technician I'll have to look for library tech jobs

that are in the backrooms of libraries, so that I won't have a seizure in
front of patrons and miss a question they ask or freak them out.

My neuro seems to think I'm adjusting well, but it will certainly be
easier
once I have enough money to live on.
