I have had non-diabetic PN for over 6 years.
My first neurologist was of the opinion that chlorinated solvents I
had been exposed to for a number of years in a factory was the cause
of my disease, but he said it was impossible to prove.
Ironically, these solvents ( 1,1,1 Trichloroethane mostly ) are now
removed and banned from use, but no admission of WHY they were banned
is forthcoming.
I have been tested and diagnosed with Peripheral neuropathy by the
ERG(?) needles sending current through my legs and returning a
voltage to a computer that interprets the results of the shock.
My problem is, the meds that are available, such as Neurontin and
Lyrica as well as the Tri-cyclics and several others I have been
prescribed are very unpleasant in side effects.
I am currently exploring herbal or homeopathic remedies for an
increasing intensity of pain, because you cannot carry on a job while
distracted by a burning sensation like fire on your feet, but also you
cannot carry on a job while in the zombie-like state of 900mg/day
of Neurontin or 130 mg/day of Lyrica.
As for the Tricyclics, they are for the birds. I can't believe they
are called medicine.
I have unacceptable responses to all these drugs.
Any suggestions on how to proceed?
TIA
Hammy
