At first, the story of "Ashley" sounded purely monstrous: Parents
obtained a mastectomy, hysterectomy and anti-growth hormone treatment
for their 9-year-old girl, who is so severely mentally and physically
disabled that she cannot move or speak or even maintain eye contact.
