Failed goodwill again!

by "Julie Bove" <juliebove@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Nov 14, 2008 at 08:26 PM

Tonight, Angela and went to the grocery store, mainly to pick up a few
things for my husband to eat tomorrow. We go to my parent's house and he
usually stays here. He doesn't cook, aside from eggs made in a paper bowl

in the microwave.

Outside the store were some girls in Northwest Harvest jackets. That's an

organization that feeds the needy. They had shopping carts full of
groceries and a sign up that they were taking donations. I told Angela to

get her own cart and she knew what that meant. I always have her pick out

the food we are going to donate, although I will sometimes add things to
her
cart. She tends to pick out things that kids would like.

We were in the store maybe 15 minutes at the most. But when we got
outside,
the girls taking donations were gone. So we were left with two bags of
food
we couldn't eat and/or didn't need. Seems like this same thing happened
to
us *last* year. I remember leaving the food on my parent's workbench
because the grocery store near them had a donation bin inside and they
were
going to be going there the next day. I wasn't sure that bin was still
there though and I didn't want to keep that food in my van.

I had to go to the pharmacy to get some more needles for my insulin pens
so
I crossed my fingers that the neighboring grocery store would have people
taking donations. They did not. So I got my needles and drove on to the
next store where again, nobody was taking donations. It was getting on to

8:00 by then and I figured it was too late to find anyone. But... I had
a
feeling that there was a donation bin inside. Sure enough there was! I
did
feel kind of funny putting in groceries from another store though.

Now I need to bag up all our cans of peas and mixed vegetables with peas.
Of course I stocked up right before I learned of Angela's pea allergy. I
will keep them in the back of the van and the next time I see someone
taking
donations, I will just give the bag to them. Or I can use that bin. If I

can remember... Heh!
