neuropathy, ala and epo

by "Janice" <jrupton@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Aug 24, 2008 at 10:33 PM

Hi, I haven't been reading this newsgroup for a long time mainly due to all

the posts that have nothing to do with diabetes. But I'm back to ask for
help/advice. I had bilateral knee replacement on 6/30/08. Right now I
regret
that I had it done but that's another story. One of the bad surprises that
I
got from the surgery was bed sores- the first one was there the day after
surgery and then I got 2 more within a week. I had neuropathy in my feet
which was controlled with 400mg of Neurontin daily. However, since the
surgery it has been awful. Feet numb, burning but worse was the fact that
apparently I have neuropathy in hips, lower back, buttocks(didn't know
that
could happen). That seems to be the underlying cause for the bedsores.
They
have since healed but the burning irritation continues and drives me nuts.

It's a problem whether I'm sitting or laying down. Only time it doesn't
bother me is when I'm standing up but then my knees are hurting so bad. My

doctor has increased the neurontin to 900mg daily but I have not seen a
lot
of improvement. I was reading about taking ALA and EPO and am curious as
to
does it really help. Sorry this has been so long. Thanks.
Janice
