I have been on Entocort (aka Budesonide) since June 2005 with a break
between Nov. 2005 and August 2006. I have read somewhere that 3 mg
Entocort
is equivalent to approximately 10 mg Prednisolone with respect to
efficacy.
Because my liver is rebelling (due to Opium, 6-MP, PPIs, Entocort, etc.) I
have reduced the Entocort to 3 mg every alternate day with the hope of
coming off it sometime because the longterm side-effects are the same as
Prednisolone - it just takes longer to get there. I did start on 9 mg, but
had too many side-effects and was OK on 6 mg for a year or so.
Oral Entocort is effective against mild to moderate Crohns located in the
small intestine and ascending colon and is marketed as such.

If you have Crohn's in the tranverse and/or desdending colon and/or
rectum,
then an Entocort enema or foam is necessary. If you have severe or
fulminant
Crohn's then it is unlikely that Entocort will help you. Doses higher than
9
mg per day have not been found to result in increased efficacy.

It sounds Humira as though it would be your best bet. In my experience,
one
should respond to Entocort within 4-7 days of taking it so you have given
it
a good shot and it was wise to move on.
