I've been taking VSL#3 since about 2006 at a packet a day while in
remission. When I start to flare, I try to increase that to about 3
packets spaced over the course of a day. I mix it in with yoghurt,
but make my own SCD-style yoghurt which is lower in milk sugars:

I recall being a little extra gassy when I first started out on VSL#3,
but adjusted to it, by which I mean, I no longer experience that.
Still, if I take more than 1 packet of it a day, I space it out over
the course of the day both to keep a more averaged/balanced intake as
well as to potentially avoid having extra gas.

I was in the hospital for the bulk of March and April this year with a
recalcitrant C. Diff. infection stacked with a CD flare. I'm still
working my way out of that with a host of things -- antibiotics to
keep the C. Diff. down and prednisone and Remicade to keep the CD at
bay. I've been chasing the antibiotics with Florastor capsules a few
hours after I take them as well as with VSL#3 (now that I'm home
recuperating). I've seen improvement with the addition of the VSL#3
or rather, since there are so many factors in play, I haven't seen any
complications from it. If you believe it is making things worse, by
all means, scale back or back off it if you're not adjusting to it and
perhaps try another probiotic. I seem to do okay with VSL#3, but from
the varied postings, that obviously isn't the case for everyone.

I hope that you can soon find something well suited for you -- best
wishes!
