Dr. Gibbons Squeals on his colleagues.
The following is a quote from gastroenterologist Dr. De Lamar Gibbons
in his book, "The Self-Help Way to Treat Colitis and Other IBS
Conditions."
PAGE 133
"Several years ago, I joined a medical group in the Wa****ngton D.C.
area. As a junior partner of the group, I was assigned to follow the
group's hospitalized patients. This, however, allowed me to try the
theory of fructose intolerance I had developed while grappling with my
own colitis.
All of the thirty-two colitis patients I had occasion to treat
improved dramatically. I made an im****tant discovery in the treatment
of a "lifelong, incurable" disease. Patients with ulcerative colitis,
IBS, and Crohn's disease improved spectacularly when fructose and
lactose sugars were removed from their diets.
Dr. Ray was a gastroenterologist practicing at our hospital. When our
group needed to refer patients with gastrointestinal problems, we sent
them to Dr. Ray. Seeing spectacular success with my dietary treatment
of these colitis patients, I approached him. "Dr. Ray, I think I have
discovered a much better way to treat ulcerative colitis and Crohn's.
Would you have a dozen cases that are not improving we could try it
on?"
"Listen, De," he said, "I have a wife and kids to feed. These patients
come in faithfully each week. They pay for my services. If you have a
cure — I don't want to hear about it." He then walked off. (Beware,
this could be your doctor!)
This attitude is not uncommon in medicine. Consider the consequences
of the discovery of a shot or pill that would cure colitis.
Established practices and treatments would change radically,
Internists and gastroenterologists would lose their money-making
routines and have to learn new methods.
Thinking I had made an im****tant discovery for colitis sufferers
(which I had), I called to inform the Colitis Crohn's Foundation of
America at their offices in New York City. I was curtly informed that
they were not interested in any cures and asked to please not bother
them anymore. It took a little while to realize why they were so
arrogant and no interested in a cure — the status quo would change and
some would lose their jobs and retirement plans. The earth must remain
flat so as the livelihoods of some depend on it. (Beware, this could
be your sup****t group!)"
PAGE 136 and last paragraph in the book.
"There is a de facto conspiracy against you because you have colitis.
Much of the health care establishment needs you to remain ill — their
livings depend on it. You must take control of your own health and
destiny by taking a self-help approach to your IBS"
Kent (no comment except to say his section explaining why dietary
fiber is bad for IBD sufferers is also awesome.)
