People with UC take steroids to alleviate the inflammation of their bowel.
Without this, the inflammation would sometimes become severe and you would
have "toxic megacolon", which, without hospitalization would result in
possible death.  Other results include the removal of the large bowel.

If y'all have any other treatment options for UC that are medically proven
to work, as John Lennon would say, "We'd all love to hear the plan".

PS, my plan was that I got feeling better on a course of prednisone and
while I tapered off, went on a carbofree diet (SCD), took 5ASAs as a
backup,
and then gradually tapered off of those to only 800 mg / day and now I
feel
great. But if my symptoms came back and I needed it, I would take the
prednisone again.
