A 5-year-old girl was killed and her 15-year-old half sister was
seriously injured around 1 p.m. Thursday when the ATV they were riding
slammed into a tree in Jefferson County.
The ATV was traveling north in a field near Tracy Lane, about one mile
southeast of Highway B, when the 15-year-old driver tried to turn
right and get on the road. The vehicle then crossed the gravel road
and struck the tree, ejecting the 5-year-old, said Jefferson County
Sheriff's Capt. Ralph Brown.
