lexapro dosage for panic/anxiety

by "Qwerty Dvorak" <invalid@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Apr 22, 2007 at 09:26 PM

My psychiatrist told me that more Lexapro is needed for panic/anxiety
compared to depression.

This was contrary to everything I ever heard. I'd always heard that less
of
an SSRI is needed for panic/anxiety than for depression.

Tonight I found this -

"Dosage: Treating depression: Adults: Usual dosage is 10 mg once daily.
Depending on individual patient response, the dose may be increased to a
maximum of 20 mg daily. After the symptoms resolve during initial
treatment
(usually 2-4 weeks for antidepressant response), a period of treatment for

at least 6 months is required for consolidation of the response."

"Panic disorder with or without agoraphobia: An initial dose of 5 mg is
recommended for the first week before increasing the dose to 10 mg daily.
The dose may be further increased, up to a maximum of 20 mg daily,
dependent
on individual patient response. Maximum effectiveness is reached after
about
3 months. The treatment lasts several months."

So it seems like less is required for panic - at least initially - just
like
I thought.

Makes me wonder about the psychiatrist.
