International Women's History Month: National Issues of Family
Planning and Reproductive Health
Sponsored by the Woodhull Freedom Foundation
A national non-profit that advances ***ual freedom as a fundamental
human right
www.woodhullfoundation.org
Join Amy Allina of the National Women's Health Network for a
discussion of the current status of women's empowerment in the US in
terms of their access to family planning and reproductive services.
We will focus on the role the federal government plays in creating and
removing social, political and economic barriers to comprehensive
reproductive health coverage. Necessities such as accurate and
scientific information about contraception, pregnancy, abortion, and
access to comprehensive health care are not available to many people.
We will also illuminate how the Bush administration and conservatives
have eroded the power of drug safety testing via the FDA, influencing
how the public receives information about contraceptives and creating
mistrust. This politicization of medicine has also been a factor in
eroding access to reproductive services and technologies. The
discussion will be informal, experience-related and will use the power
of story telling.
