I asked this back in 7/2005, & "bill" was nice enough to give a little
advice, but I was reading a story on Sergei Grinkov (the skater) who died
at
28 from the "widowmaker" artery being completely clogged. That is the LAD
or
left ascending artery. My mom has had 3 heart surgeries since 1995. Triple
bypass, then valve replacement and in 4/05 an angioplasty. From the
diagram
(a cartoon type heart-not actually a picture of her heart) her doctor gave
us in April, it looks like only two arteries are open now. The 1995 bypass
that attached the RCA artery to the Main artery was 95% blocked in
April'05
but the stent angioplasty opened that one, and then one of the other
byp***** from 1995 is still 100% open. It looks like it is attached to the
LAD and runs into the Main artery. (the third bypass from the CX artery to
the Main is totally blocked again).Doctor said at that time she would not
survive another bypass surgery, so they did the stent.
I love my mom so much, she is my best friend. I had started to think maybe
the stent & one open artery would give her many years, but now I'm so
worried again after reading about this LAD "widowmaker" artery & how
im****tant it is. (I don't tell her this) I THINK maybe that bypass that
is
still 100% open from 1995 and attached to the LAD running into Main might
mean that the "widowmaker" artery is okay for now (in 4/2005 anyway). I
know
this sounds so confusing and only a heart doctor or someone VERY
knowledgeable about those arteries can answer this, but I guess I want
reassurance that she can be okay for more years. She is 79 now, eats very
healthy, works out at an exercise place they have at the hosptial 5 days
a
week & is very active socially. What do you think? Anyone? THanks So
Much!!!
