Counterfeit Nidek Lasik lasers draw lawsuit. (I told you so.)
A class action lawsuit has been filed against Nidek and several
California ophthalmologists alleging Nidek EC5000 excimer lasers were
inappropriately altered to allow hyperopic (farsighted) Lasik and PRK
surgery prior to the 2006 FDA approval for hyperopic laser vision
correction with the Nidek EC5000.
Several years ago USAEyes issued a consumer alert regarding the
problem of counterfeit Nidek lasers.

USAEyes has decertified ophthalmologists who had altered Nidek lasers
in this manner.
