During my first pregnancy, I had a little 5th grader creep up to me and say
"I'm going to have a baby too!" Sure enough, she was pregnant. 11 yrs
old-and pregnant. Poor kid. Older sister's boyfriend apparently decided to
initiate the younger girl while older sister was "babysitting". Poor kid
didn't even know what *** really was-and her only comment on it was "it
hurt". It was the older sister who suspected and got a pregnancy test.
Since the girl was so set on having a baby, and was in a church where
abortion was seen as something beyond normal sin (but teen pregnancy was
quite common), her mother let her continue the pregnancy. And, apparently,
our city is big enough to have a Pediatric OB-GYN (a very, very scary
specialization).
She had a very difficult pregnancy and spent most of it on homebound and
bedrest, and ended up with a complicated delivery and C-section-at which
point she had what was close to a psychotic break. Due to the young
mother's
mental state and her total refusal to see the baby, the state placed the
baby in foster care, and eventually the baby was relinquished for
adoption.
I don't know what happened to the young mother-she didn't return to our
school, and her mother stopped letting the teachers know after the baby
was
placed. But I hope she was able to salvage at least some of her childhood.
The scary thing is that apparently she wasn't anything for the record
books
in the USA-although she was the youngest ever seen at our school.
Hopefully, this British girl will get the medical care and sup****t she
needs, but I don't see any way that a pregnancy at that age can be
anything
but extremely traumatic.
